Creamy, satisfying, and bursting with citrus, these chocolate orange oats are a comforting breakfast that feels like a treat. Topped with chopped fresh orange, rich dark chocolate, and crunchy pistachios, this a simple yet delicious start to your day.

Ingredients

50g Jumbo oats

1tbsp Cacao powder

juice of one orange Orange juice (70ml if using caton juice)

100ml Semi-skimmed milk (can use alternative milk)

20g Pistachios (can use nut of choice)

1/2 Orange

1 square Dark chocolate

25g Optional protein powder (I use unflavoured, but you can try your favourite flavour)

Method

Step 1

Place oats, cacao powder, orange juice and milk into a pan and mix. Put on a low heat and stir continuously until it’s thickened up and hot throughout.

Step 2

Pour oats into a bowl and place chocolate, chopped orange and pistachios on top of the oats.

Step 3

Optional: If adding protein powder, add when mixing other ingredients. Add a splash more milk if the consistency is too thick.

Recipe Notes

  • This recipe can easily be made vegan by using plant-based milk, vegan protein powder, and dairy-free dark chocolate.
  • It can also be made gluten free by choosing certified gluten free oats.
  • You can use either cacao or cocoa powder in this recipe. Cacao is the less processed option, which means it retains more of its natural antioxidants and has a deeper, richer flavour. Cocoa is smoother and more familiar for most people. Both work perfectly, so choose whichever you prefer or already have in the cupboard.
